How does Interceptor work?
Interceptor dog treatment is formulated with milbemycin oxime as its active ingredient. This formula works by affecting the nervous system of targeted parasites, leading to their paralysis and death. Once ingested, milbemycin oxime is absorbed into the dog's bloodstream. It eliminates the tissue stage of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis), thus preventing heartworm disease. Its anthelmintic activity eliminates the adult stage of hookworms, roundworms and whipworm infections.
How is Interceptor different from Interceptor Plus (Interceptor Spectrum)?
Interceptor Plus contains milbemycin oxime and praziquantel and protects dogs from heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. On the other hand, Interceptor Flavor Tablet contains milbemycin oxime. This formula protects dogs from heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms and whipworms.
When should I begin treating my dog with Interceptor?
Interceptor for dogs is indicated for puppies from 4 weeks of age, weighing 2 lbs or more.
How do I switch from another heartworm preventive to Interceptor?
If you want to switch your dog's heartworm preventive containing DEC (Diethylcarbamazine citrate) to Interceptor Flavor Tabs, give the first dose of Interceptor within 30 days of the changeover and continue with the monthly schedule.
Is there another way if my dog does not take the chew?
If your dog does not take the chew as a whole, you may give it with their food, ensuring the dog ingests the complete dose.
How often should I treat my dog with Interceptor?
You should administer Interceptor Flavor Tablet to your dog once every month, preferably on the same date.
