Nexgard for Dogs

• NexGard should be given orally, once per month.
• Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year.
• For continuous protection, you should treat your dog with NexGard the entire year.
• These chews can be given to dogs with or without food. Ensure your dog takes the complete chew when you give it with their meal. If you suspect that any of the dose has been lost or if your dog vomits within two hours of giving the chew, administer another full dose.
• If you forget a dose, give one chew immediately and continue with the monthly schedule.
• For complete flea control, you should treat all the pets in the household.

For Dogs:

NexGard chews should not be administered to puppies under 8 weeks of age or below 4 lbs of body weight. The safe use of NexGard has not been evaluated in pregnant, breeding or lactating dogs. You should use these chews with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.

According to field studies referenced in the label, NexGard Chews can be used with vaccines, antibiotics, anthelmintics, antihistamines, steroids, anesthetics and NSAIDs.

For Humans:

NexGard Chewable is not recommended for use in humans. Keep the chews out of the reach of children, pets and uninformed people. In case of accidental ingestion, immediately consult a physician. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the chews.

Are there Any Specific Storage Instructions for NexGard Chewables?

Store these chews at or below 30°C (86°F) with excursions permitted up to 40°C (104°F).

NexGard Chewables is indicated for use in puppies and dogs from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 4 lbs.

How does NexGard Chewable work?

NexGard Chewable contains the active ingredient, afoxolaner. After ingestion, the chew is absorbed into the dog's bloodstream. As soon as fleas and ticks take a bloodmeal from the treated dog, they ingest afoxolaner. It overstimulates the nervous system of these parasites, causing hyperexcitation in them. This results in paralysis and death of fleas and ticks.

How effective is NexGard Chewables?

According to a laboratory study cited in the label, NexGard Chews start killing fleas four hours after ingestion and demonstrate nearly complete efficacy at eight hours. This flea & tick treatment provided more than 90% effectiveness against various tick species at 72 hours after tick infestations, as per another lab study referenced in the label.

What does NexGard Chews protect my dog against?

NexGard chews protect dogs against fleas and ticks for one month. It kills adult fleas and treats and controls American Dog tick, black-legged tick, lone Star tick, brown dog tick and longhorned tick infestations. It is also indicated to prevent Lyme disease due to the direct result of killing black-legged vector ticks.

How often should I give NexGard to my dog?

NexGard is a monthly flea and tick treatment for dogs. You should administer one chew every month throughout the year for your dog's uninterrupted protection.

Why do I still see fleas on my dog after treating with NexGard?

Adult fleas you see on your pet only comprise up 5% of the total flea population. The remaining 95% include the immature life stages, including flea eggs, larvae, and pupae, which you may see anywhere in the house where the infested dog spends time. As your dog moves through these areas, newly emerged fleas jump on the pet. NexGard chew should be able to kill these fleas before they can reproduce. To keep your pet from re-infesting fleas, you should continue using NexGard throughout the year.

My dog doesn't go outside. Do I still need to give NexGard to this dog?

Your pet is always at risk of flea and tick infestations. They can get infected when they go out for their business. Fleas can get inside your home by hitchhiking on your shoes or clothes and infect your dog. Therefore, it is necessary to treat all your dogs with NexGard even if they don't go out.

How long before I can bathe my dog after giving NexGard?

Since NexGard is an oral treatment, bathing or shampooing your dog after treatment shall not impact its efficacy.

My dog vomited after giving NexGard; what should I do?

If your dog vomits within two hours of administering NexGard, give another full dose. If the dog vomits after two or more hours, consult a vet before redosing.

Can I combine NexGard Chews and Frontline Plus?

Both NexGard and Frontline Plus are safe for dogs when used individually. However, you should consult a veterinarian before combining these treatments.
