Suitable For
Heartgard Plus is suitable for puppies and dogs from 6 weeks of age.
Heartgard Plus Indications
- Prevents heartworm disease by eliminating the tissue stage of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis).
- Treats & controls roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina).
- Treats & controls hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense, Uncinaria stenocephala).
Ingredients: Ivermectin, Pyrantel.
- Heartgard Plus should be given orally once every month. Administer it on or about the same day of each month.
- It can be offered to the dog by hand. To prevent intestinal obstruction or choking, encourage the dog to chew the treatment rather than swallowing it whole.
- You may break the chew into pieces for dogs that swallow treats whole. You may also add the chew to a small amount of your dog's favorite food, ensuring the dog finishes the food and completes the dose. If the dog misses a part of the dose, redose.
- Administer it monthly when mosquitoes are active. Give the first dose after your dog's first seasonal exposure to mosquitoes and administer the final dose within one month of the dog's last exposure.
- When replacing another heartworm preventive with Heartgard Plus, give the first dose of Heartgard Plus within one month of the last dose of the former preventive.
- In case you miss or forget a dose, give one chew immediately and resume with the monthly dosing schedule.

How does Heartgard Plus work?
Heartgard Plus contains ivermectin and pyrantel. Ivermectin targets the tissue stage of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) and kills them. It allows the immune system of dogs to identify and inactivate these larvae before they grow into adult heartworms. On the other hand, pyrantel treats and controls intestinal worms, including roundworms and hookworms.

Heartgard Plus is an oral treatment. Bathing or shampooing your dog should not impact the efficacy of this preventive.

Heartgard Plus is safe to use on puppies from 6 weeks of age with no minimum weight requirement. Ensure that your dog is tested for any existing heartworm infection before starting the treatment.
Do I need to administer Heartgard Plus to all of my dogs?
All 50 states of the United States have reported the heartworm disease. A single bite from an infected mosquito can transmit heartworm disease to your dog, so the risk is real. Therefore, it is necessary to administer heartworm preventive to all dogs in the household, all year round, to prevent the infection.
What happens if I miss a dose of Heartgard Plus?
If you miss a dose, give a chew immediately and resume with the monthly dosing schedule from the following month.
Will my dog take Heartgard Plus?

Is it necessary to give Heartgard Plus during winter?
